Drive DeVilbiss Compact 1025 – 10L Oxygen Concentrator

The DeVilbiss Compact 1025 (model 1025KS, 230 V) is Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare’s 10L oxygen concentrator for stationary use at home or in a facility. It is built on the same platform as the widely used DeVilbiss 525 five-litre unit, but with a larger compressor and sieve system that delivers a continuous flow of 2 to 10 litres per minute. It is the machine to consider when a prescription calls for more oxygen than a standard 5-litre home oxygen concentrator can provide, or when one unit needs to supply a higher flow at home, in a frail-care facility or in a clinic.

5 litres or 10 litres – what is the difference?

Most home concentrators top out at 5 L/min. A 10L oxygen concentrator like the Compact 1025 can be set anywhere from 2 L/min up to 10 L/min, so it covers higher prescribed flow rates that a 5-litre unit cannot reach, and it can also be turned down for lower settings. The trade-off is that a 10-litre unit is heavier, draws more power and runs a little louder. Which flow rate you need is a medical decision – your doctor or respiratory specialist will specify it on your oxygen prescription, and the machine should be set to that value. Our article comparing oxygen flow rates explains the terminology.

Why choose the DeVilbiss Compact 1025?

  • OSD® oxygen monitoring as standard. DeVilbiss’s Oxygen Sensing Device measures the concentration of the oxygen being delivered and alerts you if it drops, rather than leaving you to rely on a service interval.
  • High outlet pressure. The 20 psi outlet supports long tubing runs and is compatible with cylinder transfill systems through a dedicated second outlet at the rear.
  • Compact for a 10L oxygen concentrator. At 62.2 cm high with a 34.2 × 30.4 cm footprint it takes up no more floor space than the 5-litre DeVilbiss, and the castors and integrated handles make it easy to reposition.
  • Digital hour meter. Shows total running hours so servicing can be planned accurately – useful for facilities and for resale value.
  • Assembled in the USA by Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare, with a 3-year limited manufacturer’s warranty.

Continuous-flow performance

The Compact 1025 is a continuous-flow 10L oxygen concentrator. Oxygen is delivered constantly at the flow set on the front-mounted flow meter, from 2 L/min up to a maximum recommended flow of 10 L/min. It is suitable for use with a nasal cannula or, at higher flows and where prescribed, with a mask. It is not a pulse-dose device and is designed for stationary use at home or in a facility.

Oxygen concentration and the OSD® sensor

Drive DeVilbiss specifies an oxygen concentration of 87% to 96% across the 2–10 L/min range, with a nominal value of 93% (tolerance −6% / +3%). We quote the full range rather than a single headline figure because that is how the manufacturer states it. The built-in OSD® sensor checks concentration continuously: a green light shows normal operation and a yellow light plus an audible alert warns when concentration falls below the threshold, so a blocked filter or ageing sieve bed does not go unnoticed.

Safety and alarm features

The Compact 1025 provides visual and audible alerts for:

  • Low oxygen concentration (OSD®)
  • Power failure – the alarm sounds if mains power is lost while the unit is switched on, which is valuable during load shedding
  • Blocked outlet / low flow – for example kinked tubing
  • Unit malfunction

If oxygen is essential for you overnight, read our guide to using oxygen concentrators during power outages and consider a backup cylinder.

Noise and comfort

A 10-litre compressor is inevitably louder than a 5-litre one. Drive DeVilbiss rates the 1025KS at under 57 dB(A) sound pressure – comparable to a normal conversation. In a home setting many customers place the machine in a passage or adjacent room and run longer tubing to the bedroom; the 20 psi outlet makes this practical.

Ease of use and maintenance

Controls are on the top panel: a power switch, the flow meter, the hour meter and the OSD® indicator lights. Routine maintenance is limited to rinsing the cabinet air filter and, where used, cleaning the humidifier bottle. Internal bacteria filters and the compressor filter are replaced by a technician at service intervals. Limitless Health can arrange servicing and stocks DeVilbiss consumables.

DeVilbiss Compact 1025 – frequently asked questions

Is the DeVilbiss Compact 1025 continuous flow?

Yes. It delivers a continuous flow of oxygen at the rate set on the flow meter, between 2 and 10 L/min.

How many litres per minute does the Compact 1025 provide?

It is adjustable from 2 L/min up to a maximum recommended flow of 10 L/min.

What is the difference between a 5L and a 10L oxygen concentrator?

A 5-litre unit delivers up to 5 L/min; a 10L oxygen concentrator delivers up to 10 L/min and is heavier, louder and uses more electricity. If your prescription is 5 L/min or less, a 5-litre machine such as the DeVilbiss 5L Compact or OxyFlow 5 is usually the more practical choice. Your healthcare professional determines the flow rate you require.

How much does the Compact 1025 weigh?

19 kg. It stands on castors and has integrated handles, so it can be rolled rather than carried.

Does it monitor oxygen concentration?

Yes. The OSD® Oxygen Sensing Device is fitted as standard and continuously monitors the concentration of the oxygen being delivered.

What alarms does it have?

Visual and audible alerts for low oxygen concentration, power failure, blocked outlet / low flow and unit malfunction.

Is the DeVilbiss Compact 1025 made in the USA?

Yes – Drive DeVilbiss states the 1025 series is assembled in the USA from US and imported components.

Can it fill oxygen cylinders?

The rear outlet is designed to feed a compatible DeVilbiss transfill system, which is sold separately. The concentrator on its own does not fill cylinders.

Does Limitless Health deliver in South Africa?

Yes – delivery is free nationwide, and collection is available in Fourways, Johannesburg.

Important information about oxygen use

Oxygen concentrators are medical devices. The Compact 1025 does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition; it supplies oxygen at the flow rate set by the user. Oxygen therapy, including flow rate and hours of use, must be prescribed and supervised by a healthcare professional – higher flow rates in particular should only be used as directed. Never smoke or allow open flames near oxygen equipment. If you are unsure whether a 5-litre or 10-litre concentrator matches your prescription, contact us and we will help you compare the specifications.
